Opposition would decide on discussions with the government

Opposition has said that a decision would be made tomorrow if they would agree to discussions with the government after President Yamin advised a second time to take part in talks with the government.

The Vice President of MDP, Mohamed Shifaz told Sun Media today that the opposition’s work against “tyranny” is not something that started independently. And a decision would be made after discussions within the opposition.

“We are always saying that since we started this (against tyranny), this is not the work of a certain party.” Shifaz said.

He said that the three opposition parties, MDP, JP and Adhaalath Party would discuss before making a decision to hold talks with the government.

Last Thursday, President Abdulla Yamin advised the opposition to take part in talks with the government for the sake of peace in the country and the benefit of the people.

Muaz said that one of the biggest accomplishments to the work by the government for the benefit of the people would be the establishment of peace in the country.

In a recent press conference by the opposition MDP, the Party’s Vice President Shifaz said that they want to hold discussions with their Chairperson, Ali Waheed and former President who serving a 13 year prison sentence for something he is innocent of.

Leader of Jumhooree Party, Qasim Ibrahim has welcomed the government’s offer to hold discussions and said that he is always ready to have talks with the government.

Oppositions have been calling for the release of the former President Mohamed Nasheed, Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim and other political prisoners. President Yamin has said that he would not do anything outside the law but would do anything he can within the confines of the law.
