Goalkeeper of Club Eagles, Labaan has been arrested in suspicion of attacking a Police officer

The Goalkeeper of Club Eagles, Ibrahim Labaan Shareef has been arrested in suspicion of attacking a Police officer in Friday night’s opposition protest.

The 19-year-old Goalkeeper was arrested a FAM Turf pitch today around 5:40 p.m. with a court order. He was arrested by a team of investigators by the Serious and Organized Crime Department of the Maldives Police Service.

The number of people arrested in the case gone up to seven with the arrest of Labaan Shareef.

The people arrested aside from Labaan are, Moosa Sharumeel (35), Abdulla Rasheed Mohamed (49), Naasira Ali (30), Laushaan Ahmed Zahir (19), Ahmed Ibrahim (48) and Ibrahim Ibaad (28).

Criminal Court has extended the detention of all six by 15 days. Among the arrest are three members of MDP and one member of JP.

Police Integrity Commission has said that the opposition’s “to end tyranny” on Friday was not a peaceful demonstration.

Regarding the Friday’s protest, the Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb said that the people behind the protest will be brought to justice.

He said that the opposition leaders always hide after bringing people from the atolls to protest and that opportunity would not be given anymore.

President of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom said that the people who protested on Friday “to end tyranny” showed brutality.

The PPM president condemned the attacks on the two officers at the protest.

Maumoon also said that the brutal attack on the Police officer proves that what the opposition is saying is not true.

Police have arrested the officials leading the protest for supporting conflict and violence at the protest.
