Stolen money found in laundry machine

Part of the money stolen from a house in Gaafu Alifu Gadhdhoo has been found, hidden in the laundry machine in the house of one of the suspects.

Police said that two men aged 20 and 51 were arrested in a shop in Gadhdhoo on Saturday on suspicion of stealing MVR 21,300 from a house in the island.

Police have recovered over MVR 17,000, from the laundry machine in the 20-year-old suspect’s house, and from the 51-year-old suspect’s house.

Police have also seized packets from the 20-year-old suspect, containing a substance believed to be drugs. The two suspects have criminal record for drugs and theft.

Both have been given detention periods of 15 days by Thinadhoo Magistrate Court.
