PPM has said that they would always welcome peaceful protests but they do not believe that the opposition protest tomorrow would be a peaceful one.
A press release issued by PPM today said that the government has opened the door to discussions with the opposition to understand the actual reason why they are rioting in the streets. And the opposition has publicly refused to take that opportunity, says the press release.
PPM said that certain people are calling to overthrow an elected government and bringing people to the streets with the aim of disrupting the peace. They said that gatherings that calls for such things are against international laws and the Maldivian constitution.
“We believe that the target of these demonstrations are to protect the personal interests of some people and profit from it and hurt the citizens.”
The PPM press release also advised it’s members and supporters not to take part in demonstrations that would lead to conflict.
