Senior Management has taken over at TVM and Voice of Maldives

With the ratification of the bill of Public Service Media by the President today, the senior managements of the respective entities have taken over the functions of the companies.

According to Article 8 of Public Service Media law, the board of directors of the Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) founded in 2010 would officially come to an end with the ratification and implementation of the Public Service Media law. And the post of Managing Director would also come to end according to the law.

The Information Officer of the State Media, Abdulla Rameez told Sun Media tonight that until a new board is established, TVM and Radio would be run by the senior management. And so the two institutes are being run by the senior management.

“The does state who would be running temporarily. And they would take over automatically. And so the senior management would be running until a new board is formed.” Rameez said.

Article 12 of the Public Service Media law says that until the governing board takes over the public service media, it would temporarily be run by the most senior management of the staff transferred to the public service media under the law.

The law says that the governing board of the Public Service Media has to be established along with the senior posts of the board and management has to be established according to the law within 30 days of the ratification and implementation of the law.

The Public Service Media would be run by seven members chosen by the President and approved by the Parliament. The application for the board would be announced by the President’s Office. And the members would be on the board for seven years.

And the post of the managing director would also come to end.

According to the bill, the governing board is responsible for the policies of the Public Service Media, establish the senior management, and establish a staff and salary structure and approving it. And providing the necessary opportunities to carry forth the target and aim of the Public Service Media and assigning and dismissing people for the senior management. But the board is not allowed to interfere with daily operations of the Public Service Media.
