Met Office: Maldives will not experience the effects of the Nepal quake

Maldives Meterological Office have said that the Maldives will not experience the effects of the earthquake that hit Nepal around 11:56 a.m. today which measured 7.9 on the richter scale.

The Met office told Sun Media today that Nepal is far from the Maldives and they don’t believe that the Maldives would feel the effects of the earthquake. And there has been no warning of a tsunami due to the earthquake.

Due to the earthquake in Nepal, the neighboring India and Bangladesh also experience it’s effects.

Media reports say that the number of dead in the earthquake has risen close to 700. And deaths in India have also been reported.

Maldivian Foreign Minister, Dhunya Maumoon has said that all the Maldivians in Nepal are currently in good health. The Minister said that Maldivians are generally in three areas of Nepal and their condition is being checked upon via the Maldivian consulate in Nepal. And out of the 50 Maldivian students in Nepal, most of them have been contacted.

The historic Dharahara Tower was destroyed in today’s earthquake along with numerous government buildings.
