Man arrested on suspicion of kidnapping foreign workers released

The 34-year-old Maldivian man arrested on suspicion of kidnapping two foreign workers has been released by Criminal Court.

The court decided to release the suspect during the remand hearing today, because the police did not have a court order when they entered the place where the two men were being held and arrested the suspect.

Article 47 of the Constitution that residential property shall be inviolable, and shall not be entered without the consent of the resident - except to prevent immediate and serious harm to life or property.

Two Bangladeshi men aged 23 and 24 were rescued from a house in Galolhu in Malé on Monday night.

Police said that there were signs that the two men had been assaulted, when police officers entered the premises at around 2:45 a.m.
