President Abdulla Yameen’s Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali has said that President Yameen will not entertain discussions regarding activities that encourage violations of the Constitution.
Speaking to Sun Online today, Muaz said that when the President sat down for dialogue with opposition groups, they made demands that were clear violations of the Constitution; and the President will no longer participate in such talks.
He said that the government has heard the concerns of the opposition – but ensuring development and progress for the people is more important to the President, than the opposition's allegations about the government's violations of the Constitution.
He urged opposition groups to refrain from activities that encourage strife, and assured all citizens that the government will work for the development of the country.
Muaz’s comments follow remarks by Adhaalath Party Leader Imran Abdulla on Thursday night, where he said that opposition parties will make their voices heard on 1 May 2015, and President Yameen will have no choice but to engage in peace talks then.
