Ex-Minister Nazim departs to Singapore for medical treatment

Former Minister of Defence Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim, who has been convicted of possession and import of firearms and sentenced to 11 years in prison, has departed to Singapore for medical treatment.

This has been confirmed to Sun Online by an official of Maldives Correctional Service, who said that Nazim departed Maldives on a flight scheduled at 12:50 p.m. today.

Nazim has been given permission to go abroad by the Medical Board of Maldives Correctional Service.

The 11-year prison sentence against him was issued on 27 March 2015.

The court said in the verdict that Nazim was not able to prove to the court that the pistol found in a cupboard in his bedroom, did not belong to him.
