Maldives Police Service has established Evidence Response Teams in ten atolls across the country.
Speaking at a press conference at Iskandar Koshi on Wednesday, Inspector of Police Aminath Suzy said that the service, under Crime Scene Investigation, has been established in Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Baa, Noonu, Raa, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Laamu, Gaafu Dhaalu, and Gnaviyani atolls.
She said that plans are in place to train Crime Scene Investigation officers, to expand Evidence Response Teams services.
As part of these efforts, Automated Fingerprint Identification System Workstations have been established in five atolls and connected to the central database in Malé, she said.
Suzy further informed that fingerprint laboratory services are available in Haa Dhaalu, Laamu, Gaafu Alifu, and Dhaalu atolls, and fingerprint comparing and development services will commence in Addu City and Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi soon.
In response to a question by Sun Online, she said that fingerprint laboratory services are presently only available in Malé, and the process of transporting samples to Malé is often slow and complicated.
