The parliament sitting scheduled for this morning is under way, for the first time this year without protests by opposition MPs.
The parliament is presently holding the debate on dissolving Maldives Broadcasting Corporation and establishing public service media, a bill submitted by the government.
MPs of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) are absent from today’s sitting.
MDP members have protested using megaphones, horns and whistles at every parliament sitting so far this year, except today, calling for former President Mohamed Nasheed’s release.
