Foundation for 120 flats has been set in Thinadhoo from the loan from the Exim Bank of China.
Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muix and the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives set the foundation stone in the ceremony held in Thinadhoo at 4:30 p.m.
The flats are being build on the newly developed land and dedicated Green Zone in the presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Speaking at today’s ceremony, the Housing Minister said that the work has been delayed because the proper approval was not given by the parliament. But the new parliament approved it quickly when the government presented the matter to them, said the Minister.
Noting that the government has numerous projects for the development of Thinadhoo, Minister Muiz said that the government would run development projects in the island in the future as well. And soon, 55 hectare of land will be developed on the North side of the island.
Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Wang Fukang also spoke at the ceremony saying that the friendship between China and the Maldives has grown. The ambassador said that with housing projects or otherwise, China would help in any way they can.
The flats are being built by a Chinese company as well. The company is charged to complete the project in 18 months.
The Minister of Finance, Abdulla Jihad, Health Minister, Ahmed Zuhoor and the MP for the North Thinadhoo constituents, Saudulla Hilmee took part in the ceremony along with the Thinadhoo Councilors and the G.Dh. Atoll Councilors.
