Alifushi Council by election has started

The by election of the Raa atoll’s Alifushi Council has begun.

The two candidates taking part in the election that started this morning at 8 p.m. are a candidate from the government’s PPM and the opposition MDP.

Candidate number one is MDP candidate, Ali Hameed and representing PPM is Aiminath Ali.

Three vote boxes have been allocated for the election in the island with 266 eligible voters to the first box. There are 613 eligible voters for the second box and 565 eligible voters to the third box. The vote box in Male’ City has 357 eligible voters.

With a total of 1801 eligible voters, the President of the Alifushi Council, Ahmed Mohamed said that the election started at 8 p.m. and has been going peacefully.

The council position opened after the Council Member Abdul Latheef Abdul Rahmaan resigned from his position. He is PPM member who was the president of the council in the previous term.
