Man arrested on suspicion of physical abuse of child

A man has been arrested for inflicting physical abuse on a five-year-old girl in Addu City.

Police said that the 32-year-old Maldivian man was arrested under a court order at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, in relation to a case reported to Hithadhoo Police Station the same day.

Sources say the man is not a relative of the girl.

Hithadhoo Magistrate Court has remanded the suspect in police custody for three days.
