Remand extended for mother arrested on suspicion of attempting to kill child

Fonadhoo Magistrate Court has extended the period of remand for the Indian woman arrested in Laamu Maabaidhoo on Sunday, 29 March 2015, on suspicion of attempting to kill her child.

Police said that the court remanded her in police custody yesterday for five days.

President of Maabaidhoo Council Ibrahim Shareef told Sun Online yesterday that the woman is married to a man from Maabaidhoo, and she attempted to kill her child when she went home on Sunday evening after a street brawl with her husband’s child from another marriage.

Shareef said that before heading home, the woman said that she would kill her child.

Council officials followed her home and entered by breaking the locked door, and found that the woman had pushed the child to the floor and was about to put fertiliser in the child’s mouth, said Shareef.

The child was rescued unhurt.

Shareef said that the woman has three children below the age of five, who have been handed over to relatives of their father.

The father was out fishing then the incident took place on Sunday.

Shareef said that the woman is known to lose her temper and has threatened to kill her children many times before, during arguments with her husband.
