Opposition MDP raises concerns about the trial of the former Defence Minister Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim who was sentenced for 11 years in prison on the charge of importing and possession of a firearm.
MDP issued a press release tonight saying that it’s not acceptable that all of the prosecution’s witnesses were brought to court while only some of the defence witnesses were brought in.
The MDP press release says that the imprisonment of the former president Mohamed Nasheed and the former Defence Minister, Mohamed Nazim along with the 120 citizens and journalists who have been arrested in peaceful protests out of which 90 people are standing trial proves how much the judiciary system has been influenced by politics.
Both the former president and the former defence minister was sentenced within this month of March.
