Vehicles banned from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow

Transport Authority has announced that vehicles will be banned in all inhabited islands in the Maldives from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, 28 March 2015), to mark Earth Hour.

Chairman of Transport Authority Abdul Rasheed Nafiz told Sun Online that this decision follows a request from Ministry of Environment and Energy, and that vehicles are banned in Maldives for some hours on this day every year.

He said that security forces, ambulances, permitted taxies, permitted pick-up trucks, and vehicles used by people with special needs will be allowed to operate during the two hours.

Use of vehicles between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. tomorrow will carry a fine of MVR 750, said Nafiz.
