MDP, JP, AP agree to work with foreign groups to change government

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), and Adhaalath Party (AP) have signed an agreement to cooperate to pressure the government, as well as to work with foreign groups to change the government in the event that it fails to heed their demands.

The agreement, signed by JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim, MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed, and AP President Imran Abdulla, states that the three parties will work together to share with foreign groups information on the government’s activities which undermine the Constitution and citizens’ rights, as a move to pressure the government and push for reforms.

The parties had also agreed to put their differences behind them and refrain from all activities that might hurt each other’s reputation.

MDP and JP joined forces to criticise the government following the arrests of former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim. AP decided to join them recently, and efforts are under way by the three parties as mentioned in the agreement.
