PPM: Imran supporting someone who mocked Islam is unacceptable

Ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that that it is unacceptable that President of Adhaalath Party (AP) Imran Abdulla, in the name of standing up against the government, has declared support for a person who mocked Islam.

PPM said in a statement that Imran was making baseless accusations and telling lies to defame the government.

Highlighting that he has not been able to prove anything that the government had done against the religion or the law, PPM said that the purpose of Imran’s remarks was to destroy peace and order in the country.

PPM also accused Imran of attempting to lead AP in an authoritarian manner, and called on AP’s scholars to stand up against the party’s activities that violate its purpose and basic rules.

AP, since announcing its decision to break away from the government coalition, has worked with opposition groups and aimed severe criticism at the government and President Abdulla Yameen.
