UN, Commonwealth, EU invited to observe Nasheed

The government has invited the United Nations Secretary-General, the Commonwealth, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the European Union (EU) to depute experts to observe the appeal process of former President Nasheed.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the invitation was extended on behalf of the government by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed was sentenced on 13 March by Criminal Court of Maldives for abducting a sitting judge in 2012.
