Sidhatha Shareef has resigned from her post as Deputy Minister of Law and Gender, following Adhaalath Party’s (AP) decision not to continue working with the government.
Speaking at a press conference today, Sidhatha said that she resigned because it was no longer possible to defend the policies and actions of the government.
She said that AP has commenced efforts to bring these issues to the attention of the government and push for reforms.
The purpose of her resignation is to emphasise AP’s decision, said Sidhatha.
She added that her resignation has no connection with recent cases reported to the ministry, and promised to lead the efforts to get the government back on track.
