The High Court has overruled a life sentence made by the Criminal Court in a drug related case.
High Court ruling on Thursday said that the life sentence for Ibrahim Shifaah of Vaavu Atoll Felidhoo has been overruled by the unanimous vote of the High Court judges.
It said that even though Shifaahu was in possession of what was suspected to be cannabis, the investigation did not prove what he possessed was cannabis.
Shifaah took his case to appeal claiming that the life sentence for importing an illegal drug last December was passed down against the laws.
Ibrahim Shifaah was given a life sentence by the Criminal Court after it was proved in court that 16 cannabis seeds from his wallet and 27 seeds from his backpack was found when he came back to the Maldives in a Maldivian flight at the end of 2011.
