Construction of Hithadhoo harbor project initiated

The construction phase of the Laamu atoll Hithadhoo Harbor project has been initiated today.

The government funded project, after the old harbor got damaged beyond use, was initiated by the Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muiz at a ceremony held on the island.

The 46 million Rufiyaa project is being handled by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), at the end of which a 750 ft. long harbor would be constructed. MTCC has been tasked to finish the project in 15 months.

The new harbor is Hithadhoo is one of the ten harbor projects contracted to MTCC. The MOU for the Hithadhoo harbor was signed in the February of last year.

Speaking at the ceremony, the CEO of MTCC, Ibrahim Razzaq Haleem said the government’s top priority in development is not the capital of the country.

He said that the government spent a lot in the development of the atolls and one billion Rufiyaa was contracted to the MTCC alone in the past year.

The Housing Minister said at the ceremony that the Hithadhoo harbor was a top priority for the President Yamin. Although a long time was taken before the project could begin, the minister said the project would be complete without coming to a halt.

“Having a good harbor is a doorway to the island’s development. And it is one of the things in the government’s economic plan formed by the President Yamin. The government’s strategy is to promise the people what can be done and achieve that goal.” The Minister said.

Noting that there are people working against the government’s plan to develop the country for the people, Minister Muiz said that working in the national spirit is an individual and social obligation.

“Taking the news to the foreign media in a way that contradict and obscure the truth, ruin the reputation of the country, clouding the future of the nation and the future of generations to come is treason to the nation.” Minister Muiz said.

The minister also said that the government will not indulge those people and would continue to with the projects like harbors in the atolls to fulfill the promises made to the people in this presidential term.
