Fire destroys a warehouse built in an abandoned house in Dhagethi

A fire has destroyed a warehouse which was built at an abandoned house in Alif Dhaalu atoll Dhagethi.

President of the Dhagethi Council, Abdul Hannaan told Sun Media today that the fire was noticed around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon. The combined efforts of the citizens and the police on the island controlled the fire about an hour later. And by that time, everything in the warehouse was ashes.

“The warehouse contained item which was brought in for a guesthouse. Which includes mattresses and things like that were inside the house (the warehouse).” He said.

The Island Council President said that there were houses people were living in around the warehouse but no other house was damaged in the fire.

He said that the house that caught fire had electricity. And it was difficult to say that the an electric short circuit was the cause of the fire.

He also said that the abandoned house was a very old and worn out house.
