Evidence photos from the night of the search in Nazim

An evidence photo that was taken during the night of the search in the former Defense Minister Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim’s room shows a chair that Nazim claimed that was not inside the room at the time of the search.

On today’s hearing in the trial of the former defense minister who has been charged with import and possession of a firearm, the prosecution presented a photo which shows the said chair. Nazim has said in yesterday’s hearing that there was no chair in his room and no chair was taken into his room.

One of the two anonymous witnesses who presented their testimonies yesterday has said that a search was not conducted with a help of a chair. But the other witness said that a chair was brought in from the sitting room to check a hidden compartment near the light bulb on the ceiling.

The Scene of Crime officer Mohamed Arif who was brought into today’s hearing said a picture was not taken while searching on top of a chair. And 211 photos were taken during the search of Nazim’s residence.

While 30 of the photos during the search were submitted as evidence, Nazim’s lawyer Maumoon Hameed has said that it’s not sure that the pictures were of Nazim’s house. When Nazim’s defense team showed pictures of the former defense minister’s residence as proof to Mohamed Arif, he said that he’s not sure if it was of Nazim’s residence.

Accusing the prosecution of meeting with the witnesses, the defense team said that steps must be taken against the prosecution if it keeps happening.

Only one of the three witnesses appeared in court today. The judge’s bench said that the other two witnesses were not called in because the questioning got longer than expected.
