Nazim transferred to house arrest

Former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim, arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms, has been transferred from police custody in Dhoonidhoo to house arrest.

The transfer followed court approval, after Nazim’s lawyers made a request in consideration of his health condition.

When the court asked the prosecution if they have any objections, the prosecution said that they have no objections to the fact.

In today's hearing at 11 a.m. this morning, the judges asked Nazim to explain his medical condition. But he refused saying he did not want to publicize his condition in the media.

The court said that if Nazim does anything to influence the trial while he is in house arrest, he would be moved back to police custody. And that he has to obey the police even if he is in house arrest.

The judges said that they were not aware that Nazim was changed to house arrest before and the judges have to be notified if a man in trial is being moved from police custody to house arrest.

Two days ago, Nazim was changed to house arrest for 24 hours due to his medical condition.
