President: Court cases will be settled by courts, not the President

President Abdulla Yameen has said that cases that are filed to court have nothing to do with the President, and that people who claim to have their rights should seek justice via the judicial system.

The President made this remark at an event held at the President’s Office this morning, to inaugurate the Youth Leaders Network.

He said that judges are appointed for the purpose of delivering justice, and that people who demand settling issues outside of courts are disrespecting the system.

Regardless of whether a dispute is between two private parties or between a private party and the government, and whether the parties demand civil compensation or criminal justice, the final verdict will be delivered by the courts, said the President.

He stressed that it is high time people left behind the habit of trying to solve issues by force by taking to the streets, and urged authorities to work within the system to bring about reforms necessary to ensure peace and order.

He urged everyone to refrain from inviting foreign groups to intervene in the internal affairs of the country. Efforts by foreign groups that undermine the country’s sovereignty will not be tolerated, said the President.
