Police arrest protestors at sea who attempted to go on to Dhoonidhoo

Police has arrest a group of people who attempted to go on to Dhoonidhoo, the police island where the jail for cases under investigation is located.

A Police media official told Sun Media that seven people came near the island in a boat, protested and attempted to get on the island. After the people refused the police orders to leave the area, they have been taken into police custody along with the boat in which they came in.

The media official said that the arrested were all males out of which five were Maldivians and two were citizens of Bangladesh. He said that the man leading them was a Maldivian.

Sources say that the protesters were calling for the release of the leader of MDP and former president Mohamed Nasheed. And the person leading the protest was the former MP for the South-Maafannu constituents Ibrahim Rasheed (Bondey).

While a group of people have protest on the sea near Dhoonidhoo demanding the release of the former president, Police have said that they have “brought the former president Mohamed Nasheed safely” to court.
