Ministry of Environment and Energy has signed contracts for projects to construct coastal protection structures in the islands of Kandoodhoo and Veymandoo in Thaa Atoll.
The MVR 16.8 million projects were awarded to Sas e Sanok JV Private Limited.
The contracts were signed at a ceremony at the ministry this morning, by Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim on behalf of the government.
The projects, which will see the construction of a 700-metre structure on the eastern coast of Kandoodhoo and a 205-metre structure on the western coast of Veymandoo, should be completed in 240 days (eight months).
Thorig said that efforts were ongoing by the government to protect many other islands facing erosion.
