Haa Alif. Dhidhdhoo Council says their cemetery is full and facing challenges because they cannot bury anymore bodies.
President of the Dhidhdhoo Council Ibrahim Shinaan told Sun Media today that the island cemetery has been full in 2012 are facing many challenges in burying their dead. Shinaan said they have been trying to find a grave to bury a body since 9 a.m. today.
With a population of 4091, Dhidhdhoo is the island with the hospital in the atoll. The councilor said that about 40 people are buried are buried in the island annually.
Shinaan said that the government has been informed about the issue in 2012 and so solution has been found as of yet.
The councilor said the island council wants to add a layer of soil on to the current cemetery and the council does have the sand required. But they need assistance from the government to build a boundary and add the extra layer of sand.
