The witness testimonials have been scheduled on the case against the former president Mohamed Nasheed, who is face terrorism charges, after the court denied a second opportunity to review the documents in the case.
The prosecution submitted the evidence against the former president in last night’s hearing at the Criminal Court. And Nasheed’s lawyers presented their evidence in his defense.
The media officer of the Criminal Court Mohamed Manik tweeted today saying that witness testimonials would be presented at the 10 p.m. hearing tomorrow.
The prosecution presented the names of former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh, former Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Athif, Inspector of Police Shakir, Superintendent of Police Mohamed Jamdheed and Chief Inspector of Police Abdul Manaaf Yousuf as witnesses.
The recordings of the President Nasheed’s speeches at Raalhugandu and Usfasgandu, the audio recordings of the meetings between President Nasheed and the high ranking officials of the Police and the transcripts of the cabinet meeting held on 17 January 2012 was presented as evidence.
To prove that Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) was used to make the arrest, the prosecution presented two letters and the names of Chief of Defense Force Mohamed Shiyam and Colonel Vais Waheed as witnesses to the fact. One of the letters was sent to MNDF by the lawyer of Abdulla Mohamed and the other one was an MNDF letter.
The prosecution also submitted the press releases from Judicial Service Commission, Ministry of Defense, High Court of Maldives and the directive signed and issued by the Defense Minister back then, Tholhath Ibrahim.
The former president Nasheed presented evidence in his defense. The names of the Prosecutor Gerneral (PG) Muhthaaz Muhsin, the former Superintendent of Police Mohamed Jinaah, the former Home Minister Hassan Afeef and Ahmed Mausoom were presented, who was in a political position at the time.
