Five released on condition they do not join protests

The court has released five people on the condition that they do not join protests for two months, out of the thirteen people arrested on Monday night during a protest organised by opposition groups Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Jumhooree Party (JP).

The police spokesperson told Sun Online that those that remain in custody include a woman, for whom the court has given 10 days in detention; while the remaining seven people have been given fifteen days.

In addition to the arrests on Monday, police also arrested ten people including a woman and a minor during the protest on Sunday. Both the woman and the child have been released.

Police have also said that several of those arrested during the protests have tested positive for drugs - including Medhu-Henveyru MP Ali Azim.
