Five people arrested in three areas in Mal

Police have seized large quantities of drugs and arrested five people including two minors, in three areas in Malé.

Police said that the suspects are a 17-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and two men aged 18 and 28; and all except the 28-year-old man - who was from Bangladesh - were Maldivian.

The drugs were seized from a guest-house in Henveyru, and two more locations in Malé.

The minors were arrested in the guest-house in Henveyru, and 50 grams of drugs were seized from the scene, said police.

Based on information given by the minors, officers went to the location of the person who had provided them with the drugs, where they arrested the 18-year-old man and found six rubber packets and four cellophane pieces containing substances believed to be drugs on his person, and seized ten rubber packets and 29 cellophane pieces containing substances believed to be drugs from the scene.

Officers then visited the Bangladeshi man who supplied drugs to the 18-eyar-old, and discovered 50 grams of drugs on his person, and also seized 300 kilos of drugs from his room.

The 17-year-old girl had been frisked following drug-relation suspicions on five occasions before, while the 15-year-old boy had been arrested three times, questioned 12 times, and penalised for violating traffic laws four times, said police.

Similarly, police said that the 18-year-old man had been frisked on 27 occasions and penalised for violating traffic laws.
