Maldives proposes buying patrol boats from Bangladesh

Maldives has expressed interest in buying patrol boats from Bangladesh, Bangladesh’s bdnews24.com has reported.

According to an article published on Tuesday, Maldives’ National Defence Force (MNDF) Chief of Defence Major General Mohamed Shiyam said this to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while paying a courtesy call on her at Jatiya Sangsad Office on Tuesday evening, as part of his ongoing visit to Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said that during the meeting, Shiyam also praised the Khulna Shipyard, which he visited recently.

Shiyam noted Bangladesh’s contributions to the Maldivian economy, and thanked Bangladesh for sending drinking water and water treatment plants during the Malé water crisis in December 2014.
