A 40-foot fishing boat has sunk after being overloaded at the harbour across the fish market in Malé.
No one was hurt, but the incident which took place at 7:30 a.m. today left the boat’s engine damaged.
An eyewitness told Sun Online that the boat, made out of fibreglass, is likely to have sunk due to overloading, but the exact reason is unknown.
He said that there were two compartments filled with ice and a number of yellow fin tuna onboard at the time of the incident.
The boat has been docked at the harbour for a long time, since it is used to buy and sell yellow-fin tuna from that harbour, he said.
Efforts are ongoing by the crew to pull the boat back to the surface.
