Former Defence Minister

Police have said that the passports of former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim as well as his wife Afaaf Abdul Majeed, have been withheld.

The passports were withheld 27 January 2015 for one month.

This comes after police raided Nazim’s apartment located at G. Enif, Malé, at 3:15 a.m. on 18 January 2015 and confiscated a 9mm pistol, magazine, three bullets, an improvised explosive device, and a pen drive.

Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed has said that despite the discovery of weapons, police decided against making an arrest after taking into consideration the time of the raid and the profile of the suspect.

Nazim’s legal team has claimed that neither Nazim nor any member of his family has anything to do with the weapons found in his home.
