Criminal Court has sentenced a man to ten years in prison for stabbing a police officer in the shoulder.
The court found Mohamed Nasru, M. Veyra, Malé, guilty as charged by the state for assault including inflicting harm on an individual using a sharp object.
The court said in its verdict, delivered today, that according to witness statements and his own confession provided to the court, Nasru threatened police officers who visited his residence at around 3:40 p.m. on 7 January 2015 for a theft investigation, and stabbed Lance Corporal Ahmed Sameeh Mohamed on the shoulder.
The medico legal report served as proof for Sameeh’s injuries, the court said in its verdict.
This is the first verdict under the Intimidation and Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Instruments Act following the enforcement of the first amendment to this act.
