A team from Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has travelled to Vaavu Rakeedhoo, four days after the death of three-year-old Mohamed Ibthihaal due to suspected abuse.
Rakeedhoo Council spokesperson told Sun Online that the team arrived in the island at 9:30 a.m., and has met with council members, senior officials of the Health Centre, and members of the public.
He said that this was HRCM’s first visit to the island, and the team is scheduled to depart in the evening.
HRCM was unavailable for a comment at the time of publication.
Vice President of HRCM Ahmed Tholal said earlier that relevant institutions, which had been informed that the child was not living in a safe environment, should be held responsible for the child’s death.
Ibthihaal’s mother Afiya Mohamed is presently under arrest in Rakeedhoo.
