Senior police officers receive training on Penal Code

A group of senior police officers have attended a training programme on the new Penal Code.

The participants from Maldives Police Service were Superintendent of Police Asim Abdulla, Superintendent of Police Moosa Ali, Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan, Superintendent of Police Hussain Rasheed, and Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Basheer.

The training programme, conducted by Legal Sector Resources Centre Consultant of the Attorney General's Office and former Deputy Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem, was also attended by lawyers of the Attorney General’s Office.

Certificates were handed out to participants at a ceremony at Salt Café yesterday, by Permanent Secretary of Attorney General’s Office Sulthana Shakir.

Speaking to reporters, Public Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office Aminath Areej Hussain said that three-day training programmes have been conducted for 140 individuals on the Penal Code so far.

She said that this includes 42 people in Addu City, including police officers and Prosecutor General’s Office lawyers stationed in Addu City.

The programme would also be conducted in Baa Eydhafushi, Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, and Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo; as well as for Police Integrity Commission, Human Rights Commission, and Anti-Corruption Commission.
