Ministry of Islamic Affairs has signed an agreement with Speed Construction for the construction of a mosque in Alifu Dhaalu Kunburudhoo.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs this morning, by Minister of State for Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Ali, and Managing Director of Speed Construction Hussain Shareef.
Islamic Ministry has said that the MVR 5.4 million project is funded by the government, and the mosque can accommodate up to 340 people at a time.
Kunburudhoo Council has said that the men of the island have been using the women’s prayer quarters since skeletons were discovered at its old mosque three years ago, and due to lack of space, many people have to use mats to pray outside the quarters.
Speed Construction said that construction would begin in about a week’s time.
Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thorig (Tom), a native of Kunburudhoo, said at the signing ceremony that today was a happy day for the people of Kunburudhoo.
