Training program under way for BTEC Coordinators

Ministry of Education has launched a training program for BTEC Coordinators.

BTEC has been introduced as a stream of studies in local schools in addition to the long-established streams Science, Commerce and Arts.

A total of 78 Coordinators from schools in Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Noonu, and Raa Atolls will attend the three-day training program, which began at Kalaafaanu School yesterday.

BTEC has been introduced in 11 schools in Malé, and 51 schools in other islands.

Education Ministry has said that a pilot program for BTEC was conducted in the final term of 2014.

BTECs are undertaken in vocational subjects, such as sports, beauty therapy, arts and design, and travel and tourism.

BTEC Coordinator at Ministry of Education Zooshan Kamaaluddin said that students will receive Edexcel Diploma Level 2 Certificates upon completion of the three-year BTEC courses.

The ministry has said that the second round of the BTEC training program for Coordinators will be held soon.
