Child found dead with serious injuries in Rakeedhoo

A two-year-old boy has been found dead with serious injuries in the island of Rakeedhoo in Vaavu atoll.

The police spokesperson told Sun Online that the body was discovered this afternoon and the incident was reported to police at 12:10 p.m., and a police team was on their way to the island.

Photos received by Sun Online show severe injuries, including swollen ears and private parts.

President of Rakeedhoo Council Adam Saamee told Sun Online that the child was found dead, due to suspected abuse, at around 11:45 p.m. in his living room.

He further said that the mother had been advised and warned by the Ministry of Law and Gender and the police following suspected abuse earlier.

The child’s remains have been taken to Rakeedhoo Health Post, and the funeral has been postponed until police arrive in the island, said Saamee.

The mother is unconscious and receiving treatment at Rakeedhoo Health Post.
