A senior official of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has assured to Sun Online that Parliament Member of Velidhoo constituency Abdulla Yameen who is currently a member of the opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has decided to join PPM.
Sun Online on Tuesday has learned that MP Yameen would join PPM at the special meeting of PPM to be held on Thursday.
When Sun Online contacted MP Yameen regarding the matter, he said “I have not signed for PPM yet”, and did not respond to any other question.
One of Yameen’s close friends told to Sun Online the MP was disappointed with the actions taken against him by the Action Committee of MDP for disregarding the three line whip passed by the party not to vote for removal of Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussein and Judge Muthasim Adnan from Supreme Court at the parliament and how he is being treated in the party after that.
Among the actions taken by MDP, Yameen was asked to apologize from party members and he is suspended for six months from any vote taken within MDP PG group. He was also suspended from representing MDP in abroad.
Although rumors have been spread that some MPs of Jumhooree Party (JP) are also to join PPM, JP has denied that and PPM has also not given any confirmation.
