President Abdulla Yameen has sent a message of condolence to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, following the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
President Yameen said in his message that King Abdullah was a leader of exceptional quality and courage, who strived to transform the Saudi society and the entire Middle East.
The message reads, “The King’s Peace Plan of 2002 that calls for the establishment of the State of Palestine, remains the fundamental document guiding any discussion on the topic. Similarly, the King’s tireless efforts and his personal interests in promoting dialogue and understanding among different cultures and religions are recognized around the world. Most importantly, the King was the architect of several important initiatives in Saudi Arabia, including education and other social sectors. Such changes have inspired several generations to embrace the changes in Saudi Arabia.
“With the King’s passing away, a light on enlightenment in the world has gone. His demise would be a great loss to his people, to the Muslim Ummah, and to the entire world. May the Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace, grant him a place in Jannat al Firdous. And may the Almighty Allah give strength to Your Majesty and the other members of the royal family. Aameen.”
King Abdullah came to the throne in 2005. He passed away at the age of 91 at a hospital at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, at 1:00 a.m. local time.
