President Yameen congratulates Sri Lanka

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect of Sri Lanka, Maithiripala Sirisena, following his victory in the Presidential Election.

The President’s Office said that President Yameen conveyed his congratulations on behalf of the people and the government of Maldives, and said that the election result is a testament to the trust and confidence that Sri Lankans have in Sirisena’s policies, leadership, and commitment to the advancement of Sri Lanka.

“I look forward to working closely with you in further expanding the enduring ties of friendship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Let me take this opportunity to invite you to make a State Visit to the Maldives at your earliest convenience. Such a visit would give us the opportunity to exchange views in taking our relationship forward,” read the President’s message.
