Malé City Council and Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited have agreed to open a new fish market in Malé. The new market would be open from tomorrow onwards, at the T-Jetty area. Mohamed Shujau, speaking on behalf of Malé City Council, said today that the market would open tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
Shujau said that the new market was planned especially for the month of Ramadan, and that the major concern for the operators of the market would be to keep prices of fish at a low and stabilized price for the benefits of the public.
“Fresh fish would be available at the market. We had noticed that prices of fish, which happens to be one of the most essential ingredients of the Maldivian diet, tend to go up during Ramadan. That is the reason why the City Council decided to open a new fish market”, Shujau said.
Prices of fish would be fixed, and would vary between MRF35 and MRF80 in the new fish market.
