Moosa's removal from MDP membership filed to Appeal Committee

Hulhuhenveyru MP Reeko Moosa Manik has filed his removal as a member of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to the party’s Appeal Committee.

Moosa, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, told Sun Online that he does not accept his removal from party membership and he has thus filed the case to the Appeal Committee, which has the authority to make the final decision on such issues.

He added that MDP had not informed the Elections Commission of his removal as a member of the party.

He said that he wants what is best for MDP, and does not want to see the party being ‘hijacked’ by one person.

Moosa has also filed a case to the Elections Commission regarding his removal from MDP. He said that the issue should be settled by the commission, and requested it to investigate the matter.

MDP’s Action Committee passed to remove the party’s former chairperson in December, citing that he had repeatedly gone against three line whips issued by the party. Chairperson of the Action Committee Mohamed Shifaz said that in addition to this, Moosa had also refused to cooperate with the committee’s efforts to investigate this issue.

To re-join the party, Moosa would have to submit the membership form with signatures of 50 members. The committee has decided that he would have to issue an apology to party members within a defined duration, and barred him from running for party posts within five years from the date he is accepted by the party.
