The empty seat of Baa Dhonfanu Council has been given to Jumhooree Party (JP) candidate by Election Commission (EC) because the other candidate’s (candidate from MDP) candidacy was cancelled.
Member of EC Mohamed Shakeel has on Thursday said that among the two candidates, who have applied for Dhonfanu by-election, they have cancelled MDP candidate Hussain Amir’s candidacy and, for that reason, JP candidate Abdulla Ahsan has won the vacant seat of Dhonfanu council without an election.
“Only two members have submitted application for candidacy that was opened until 28 of last month. One of their candidacies was cancelled because the form was not completely filled” said Shakeel.
A seat from Dhonfanu council had become empty, after Vice President of the council, Yoosuf Naushad, resigned his post.
