Tourist arrivals reaches 1.1 million by end of November 2014

The Ministry of Tourism has announced that the total tourist arrivals in the Maldives had reached 1,101,113 by the end November 2014.

The ministry said that this is an increase of 7.9 percent when compared with tourist arrivals at the end of November 2013, which stood at 1,020,190.

The ministry said that at the end of November 2014, Asia and the Pacific was the leading market generator, with 546,278 tourists having arrived from that region. The overall growth of the region at the end of November 2014 was 13.6 percent.

The second largest market generating region was Europe, with 477,123 tourists and 0.8 percent growth.

Out of individual markets, the highest tourist arrivals in the first 11 months of 2014 was from China. The number of tourists that visited Maldives from China during this period was 345,395, which constitutes a growth of 11.1 percent.

The number of tourists who visited Maldives in November 2014 was 89,778. This is an increase of 5.1 percent when compared with November 2013.
