The logo and the theme for the celebration of 50 years of independence, from being a British protectorate, have been inaugurated at a ceremony on Thursday evening.
The ceremony, to celebrate National Day and Unity Day, was held at Dharubaaruge and the logo and the theme were inaugurated by President Abdulla Yameen.
The theme for the celebrations is “Dhivehin – Always Maldivian, Forever Independent”.
The logo contains the colours of the national flag - red, white, and green; and includes a 50 written in those colours. The zero in the 50 is represented by a star.
The agreement for independence from the British was signed in Sri Lanka by then-President, Ibrahim Nasir, on 26 July 1965.
